Daddy's Little Girl......

Last night and today Hannah got over the hump(hopefully).  Yesterday morning she finally passed out from having a rough couple nights.  Around 2 pm she woke up, and they removed her off the BIPAP mask and onto regular oxygen.  She seems to be tolerating it well so far.  They also had cut her off the IV Morphine for pain and started her on something else.  We think the poor girl was going through Morphine withdraws because she would just lay there with her eyes closed and moan!  I took off the rest of the afternoon and headed home because I was physically and mentally exhausted.  Later that evening, I received a few texts from Greg that she was doing well, and she even slept on her tummy for two hours.  I believe overall Daddy and her had a good night!  I got here this morning around 10am so Greg could get home for the afternoon to get some work done.  She looked great when I walked in the room.  She is still very melancholy but seems sooooo much more comfortable. I really think all she needed was some Daddy time!  She is a Daddy's girl that is for sure:)

As for the rest of the afternoon, she did well.  The surgeon came around later in the afternoon and seemed happy with her progress.  For the most part he pretty much set us straight with everything that has been unfolding for the past few days.  He reminded us that looking at the big picture she is recovering nicely.  He said all this stuff that has been going on with her is small and fixable.  When you rate her on a scale of 0-100 with 100 being the worst patient in the ICU, she is a 5.  I have to think that in itself is rewarding.  He proceeded to say all her labs for her liver are all normal!  We keep getting reminded that she will get past all this other stuff, it just takes time.  She is very small and her body can only work so hard and so fast.  They are absolutely right.  We tend to forget that because all we see is here and now.

I need to keep reminding myself that this is a marathon and not a sprint.  We will get through it, it just takes time.  I have recollected myself and feel much better today.  Daddy took care of business and Hannah is hopefully heading back up the hill.  We can only hope she can continue that hill so we can get to the floor.  We think at this point a huge milestone is getting out of the ICU.  I wish I could bring the doctors, nurses, and staff with us because they all have been absolutely wonderful.  They have treated Hannah like a princess and have taken awesome care of her.  So for now we are hoping to get through this weekend without to many upsets.  We are preparing ourselves for one more set back because that is just how this ride goes.  I will continue to keep you all informed on her PROGRESS :)

  4. Casey, Greg, and Jacob,

When Hannah is a big girl she will be moved when she hears the story of how her very brave family watched over her so carefully. It is true that so many are praying for her, across many states and probably several countries as well. We have family in Kansas and North Carolina and friends in England who have her on their prayer list. (not to mention those here in Missouri)
Thank for keeping us posted. Take care of yourselves.
