Good News or Bad News......

We went for Hannah's post op appointments today with the GI doctor and the surgeon. Unfortunately Hannah's bilirubin levels have not gone down, but they have not gone up either. They have remained about the same since we left the hospital a week ago. The GI doctor was not happy with the results and said we are probably looking at Hannah receiving a liver transplant sometime this first year of life. The surgeon is not convinced yet it is not working because he saw her stool and sees bile in it so obviously it is working to some degree. So basically we have two doctors, one looking at the glass half empty, and the other half full. We go back in two weeks to get her levels drawn again, and I think that will be telling us what road we will be taking for Hannah's future. Both doctors have been wonderful, and I do believe we have gotten phenomenal care from them up until this point. Even with the doctor saying she will probably be needing a liver transplant, she makes everything sound so hopeful. In some werid way, it lightens the load for me when she acts like it will be a tough year but once it's all said and done Hannah will be like any other kid, and this all will be a distant memory. I am definitely still nervous what the future holds for her, but I think whatever it may be Greg and I will stand by our little girl and get through it together. I recently had a friend tell me, "You will learn to take things day by day and to appreciate the present. You can't change the past and the future hasn't come yet." She is so right! Thank you for that:). Well that is where we stand at this point. Hannah still seems to be recovering well and smiling all the time! We did increase her caloric intake in her bottles because she still is not even 10 pounds yet! She still is as cute as can be and her big brother is still being a good boy. He was making her crack up just the other day and I got some great pictures! It was the cutest thing I have ever seen and it made me think even though we have to go through all of this, I am still one lucky mommy to have such beautiful and happy children!! I will post the pictures soon.

  1. Well Hello Miss Hannah Rose! It has been over a week now since I have seen you-I miss your little self! You looked so sweet in your last photo! and I am sure you are truly enjoying your new view! What wonderful family you have-do you realize with all of their worry they put it to use and painted your room! I know they did it with a lot of love! You must love having your own room. Jacob is probably already scoping it out wondering where he can hide :) Well the last time I went to see you in the hospital, think of my surprise when they told me you were discharged YEAH! I was so excited for you and your family that you were able to go home! What a wonderful day-Thank you God! I was talking to the Dr that took care of you when you went to sleep for your surgery (they are called anesthesiologist!) and I said, "Dr. F, do you know that Hannah went home today?". She looked at me and said-"You just don't understand-babies with Biliary Atresia just don't do what Hannah did-from the moment she entered this hospital last Friday she has beat all odds. These kids just don't bounce back like she did--no really-you don't understand-." Well--all I could say to her was, "I guess we all know who had a hand in this." and little Miss Hannah, I truly believe He was and is there for you. (Matter of fact-I think He is very overwhelmed with prayer requests and prayers of thanksgivng related to Hannah!) There are SO many people that are praying for you and that love you! The power of prayer is so strong. I will continue to pray for you every day and I am hoping to babysit you and your brother soon-(tell your mommy and daddy they need to go out and celebrate their anniversary and leave you in my care!!) So good to hear an update-I look forward to a new message from you! Have a wonderful week and tell your daddy to remember to feed you when the Cards are playing tonite! GO CARDINALS! love to you XOXOXO Miss Shaorn
